About Us
Sage Coffee House is an independent, family-founded café overlooking The Green in St Helens. Built on connection, quality and community, Sage has quickly become a valued local hub. We are known for our speciality coffee, fresh brunch menu and homemade bakes, with high standards at the heart of everything we do.
We are now looking for an experienced, confident chef to join our team full time.
The Role
This is a hands-on kitchen role within a busy brunch-led café. You will be responsible for maintaining consistency, quality and pace during service while working closely with a small, supportive team
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and thrives in a well-organised, fast-paced environment.
Working Hours
We are open:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday
Closed Tuesdays
Opening hours are 9:00am – 3:00pm, however prep and closing duties are required.
Typical working hours will be approximately:
8:00am – 3:00pm or 8:00am – 4:00pm
We are flexible and understand that some chefs prefer earlier prep time or slightly extended closing time. We are happy to discuss:
- Starting up to 1–1.5 hours before opening
- Finishing up to 1 hour after closing
Exact schedule will be agreed with the successful candidate.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and cooking fresh brunch and lunch dishes to a high standard
- Maintaining consistency in presentation and portion control
- Managing service efficiently during busy periods
- Supporting menu development and seasonal specials
- Ensuring food hygiene and health & safety standards are upheld
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and well-stocked
- Assisting with stock control and ordering where required
Requirements
- Previous professional kitchen experience (essential)
- Confident working independently and as part of a small team
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and kitchen organisation
- Calm under pressure with good time management
- Reliable, professional and proactive
Salary
Competitive hourly rate (circa £17 per hour equivalent), above minimum wage.
Final salary dependent on experience and discussed at interview.
