We provide public ‘Pleasure Grounds’ and amenities, including car parks and recreational facilities, as well as restoring, conserving and maintaining a property with significant historical and architectural merit.

The role of the General Manager is one of overall operational leadership – providing day-to-day oversight and management of all aspects of the business and estate.

You will need to lead and develop the existing professional and highly enthusiastic in-house team in all aspects of their responsibilities - helped and supported by the Board of Directors as well as an army of volunteers.

You will be required to plan and deliver solid financial results whilst delivering exceptional customer experiences when the House hosts social events, business conferences, recreational and festive activities.

Good advocacy skills are essential – you will be the representative of the Charity to the whole Cowes community, as well as to the many island-wide stakeholders who have involvement with the Charity’s activities.

Northwood House Charitable Trust Ltd

Northwood House and Park comprise one of the most important historic landmarks in Cowes. Built in 1797, it was owned and occupied for over 130 years by five generations of the Ward family, who played a significant role in the social and civic life of the Island. Today, as sole Trustee of the Charity owning the grade 2* listed house and its surrounding parkland, Northwood House Charitable Trust Company Ltd. (NHCTCL) is responsible for: • Providing and maintaining public pleasure grounds for recreation and relaxation • Delivering public amenities, including car parking and leisure facilities • Managing, restoring, conserving, and maintaining the House and Park in recognition of their historic and architectural significance The continued restoration and preservation of Northwood House and Park bring wide-ranging benefits to the community. We protect a unique piece of local heritage, support education and cultural engagement, provide green space for health and wellbeing, and strengthen Cowes’ appeal as a visitor destination. We are also a significant local employer, driving economic activity and providing direct and indirect support for local businesses not just on the Estate, but within the town of Cowes and the Isle of Wight. We do not receive substantial public funding and so must manage the Estate in a way which ensures it is self-supporting. However, commercial activities on the estate are carefully managed and are limited to those required to support financial sustainability, fund essential restoration and maintenance works, and enable the ongoing provision of community services. In doing so, we must balance the needs of the Estate and many different sectors of the community. In this way, Northwood House and Park can remain not only a treasured historic asset, but a living, working part of the community and one which can continue to provide numerous benefits for the people of Cowes.
