Cookery Technician
Part Time, 0.8 FTE - Term Time
Ryde School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for children aged 2 -18 years old. We are currently looking to appoint an enthusiastic and professional Cookery Technician to provide technical support in the classroom to ensure the efficient running of lessons for our students.
The purpose of this role is to support the Teacher in charge of Cookery with the day to day running of the Cookery school. As such, daily responsibilities will include; preparing resources, cleaning of equipment, ordering and sorting stock as well as supporting students on a 1:1 or small group basis.
The successful candidate will:
- Be responsible for preparing food materials & kitchen equipment for practical lessons
- Have food hygiene knowledge and a familiarity with safe working practices in a kitchen that adhere to H&S standards
- Be able to use and supervise the use of a variety of kitchen equipment
- Support high levels of student health and safety within a kitchen environment
- Maintain a tidy Cookery school
- Have good communication skills, both oral and written
- Have strong IT skills to support the administrative aspects of the role and maintain accurate allergen and compliance information
- Adapt to work both independently and as part of a team
- Remain calm, even in times of pressure
A flexible approach to hours of work is essential to the success of the role. Ensuring that the cookery school is set-up and organised ahead of time and before the school starts each day is essential. As a result, start times are usually 7:45am, with finish times tending to be after the end of the school day at 4:45pm. The exact hours of work vary each day, and depend upon both the academic timetable and extra-curricular activities taking place within the school. This will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.
This role is offered on a part time, term time basis with all employees expected to be able to attend INSET days.
