About the Role
The Isle of Wight College is seeking a passionate and skilled Carpentry & Joinery Lecturer to join our Construction team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced industry professional—or a current lecturer—to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment to students across a range of carpentry programmes.
You will play a key role in shaping the next generation of skilled tradespeople by delivering engaging lessons, supporting learner progression, and contributing to curriculum development. Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality lessons across a range of carpentry and joinery courses.
- Prepare learning materials and continually assess progress through formative and summative assessment.
- Provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate records of student development.
- Carry out Internal Verification when required.
- Deliver academic tutorial support and guidance to individual learners.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement.
- Participate in departmental meetings, college-wide events, open days, and extracurricular activities.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure all administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Uphold safeguarding, equality, health and safety, GDPR and quality assurance requirements.
- Engage in continuous professional development and attend mandatory training.
About You
You will be enthusiastic, proactive, and committed to supporting students to achieve their full potential. You’ll bring strong communication skills, industry-relevant expertise, and the ability to deliver inspiring and engaging lessons.
Essential Requirements
- Level 2 (GCSE A–C or equivalent) in English and Maths, or willingness to achieve during probation.
- Minimum Level 3 vocational qualification in a relevant Carpentry/Construction discipline.
- Assessor Award (A1) or willingness to work towards.
- Teaching qualification (or willingness to complete within 3 years).
- Recent, practical industry experience within carpentry/joinery.
- Strong communication and IT skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational and workload-management skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, health and safety and continuous professional development.
- Full driving licence with access to a vehicle suitable for business use.
Desirable
- Verifier Award (V1).
- Experience of curriculum development and raising retention/achievement.
- Experience delivering high-quality teaching within FE or training settings.
