Airframe Assemblies is a small company established 1985 to preserve the legacy of predominantly second world war aircraft and has built its international reputation upon the quality of its workmanship. Within the Warbird Restoration Industry, it is known as the world’s premier restorer of Supermarine Spitfire Airframes.  Using traditional hand skills our small team lovingly restore these iconic aircraft to their former glory, returning them to the skies where they belong. Many of the aircraft restored by us feature in TV shows and films as well as UK and International Air Displays.

Job Summary

We are looking for an individual to join our team of Airframe Fitters, this will entail assembly of sub-components such as fuselage frames and wing ribs from kits of premade sheet metal details, accurately building them in layout boards and jigs. These components will need to be carefully drilled off, riveted and bolted together.

In addition to the sub-assembly bench work our Fitters are also required to build major assemblies such as Fuselage, Wings, Tail Units and Flight Controls and the work is varied and interesting.

Training will be provided in order to gain stamp approval.

Essential Skills

• Keen attention to detail and ability to work to fine tolerances
• Good hand skills
• Pro-active and able to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to read an engineering Technical Drawing
• Ability to follow instruction
• Ability to maintain accurate technical records of work conducted.

Desirable Skills

• NVQ Level 2/City & Guilds in Fitting or a recognised fitting indentured apprenticeship OR sufficient relevant experience as an Aircraft Fitter
• Previous experience of fabrication in metal (similar trades considered such as Marine and Automotive).
• A keen interest in Vintage aircraft and history.
• Tool making
• Use of machinery such Lathes and Mills
