The Isle of Wight College is seeking a practical, motivated Skills Trainer to join our engineering department at CECAMM, based at our satellite site in Whippingham.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working with equipment, supporting learners through project and workshop-based activity, and engaging with employers and schools. You will play a key part in delivering practical training, maintaining specialist engineering equipment, and helping to promote technical education through employer and school engagement.
The Role
You will support teaching and learning through the delivery of practical, project-focused sessions, while also acting as a technician for the Institute of Technology, with responsibility for equipment operation, upkeep, and safe use.
Full training will be provided on specialist equipment and systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging project and workshop-based skills sessions to learners
- Support teaching staff with practical delivery and learner activity
- Act as a technician this includes:
- Setting up, operating, and maintaining specialist equipment
- Supporting safe workshop practice and compliance
- Work with employers to support skills delivery and industry-led projects
- Support engagement activities with secondary schools, including demonstrations, workshops, and outreach events
- Assist with the organisation and delivery of employer and school-based activities using Institute of Technology equipment
- Maintain accurate records relating to equipment, usage, and maintenance
- Contribute to a safe, organised, and professional workshop environment
About You
This role would suit someone with a strong practical background who enjoys working in a technical, learner-focused environment. You will have:
- Practical experience in engineering, manufacturing, or a related technical field
- Confidence working with tools, machinery, or technical equipment
- Good communication skills and a willingness to engage with learners, employers, and schools
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and equipment care
Teaching or training experience is not essential. Full training will be provided where required.
