We are looking to recruit two additional relief library assistants to work in the council's libraries across the Island – we have libraries in Cowes, Freshwater, Newport, Ryde, Sandown and Ventnor.
The main duties in this post are to welcome users into any library, give them the help they need to find books and information, and make full use of the libraries' ICT facilities. Relief library assistants also assist Library Supervisors and Senior Assistants to run libraries on a day-to-day basis and help manage the bookstock. In addition, relief library assistants have a role in promoting libraries to local communities and working effectively with volunteers.
We are looking for people with customer facing library or retail experience, who have excellent communication and ICT skills, including good research skills. You must be willing to join in with activities involving adults and children, and have a positive, outgoing attitude.
Essential qualifications for the post are 5 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C/4 and above, including English and Maths, and ECDL or equivalent computer skills.
