Isle of Wight Youth Trust is an independent local charity, working in our local community for over 40 years, delivering confidential, professional counselling, therapeutic and wellbeing services for children and young people.

If you want to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people, we want to hear from you. We are looking for a motivated, dynamic support worker, with either lived experience of, or sound understanding of the challenges faced by care-leavers. 

Purpose: (Please note this is not a therapeutic role)

  • Raise awareness of the needs of care leavers and reduce barriers to access and participation in services
  • Understand what support is available and be able to deliver IAG (Information, Advice & Guidance) to them
  • Establish an individual support plan for each care leaver engaged in the service that creates a holistic, wide support offer within YT that includes access to mental health interventions, and Hub activity, including housing, and employment advice that achieves positive outcomes, especially into employment and/or training and education. Signposting and ‘handholding’ into other relevant services as appropriate.
  • Help to reduce the feelings of isolation felt by some care leavers through befriending, support with social activities, volunteering, etc
  • Provide advocacy for the needs of care-experienced young people and care leavers to ensure their needs are recognised and addressed.
  • Proactively identifying gaps in care leaver services and support mechanisms to highlight opportunities for both the Trust and other services.

Experience: You will have either lived experience or a sound knowledge of the issues faced by those leaving the care system.

Contract type: Fixed Term - until 31/8/25

Hours: 22.5 hours (3 days) / 0.6 FTE

Salary: £24,637 FTE (pro-rated)
