Role Overview

This role reports to the Head of Outfit and is responsible for producing high-quality joinery and cabinetry throughout Archipelago vessels – from carcass manufacture through to bespoke fitted furniture and interior panelling. This is a hands-on trade role for a skilled joiner, cabinet maker or boat builder who takes real pride in precision and finish. Experience of working in a marine environment would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

This list is not exhaustive, and is likely to evolve and develop as the company grows in its size and ambition. This should be seen as a baseline set of responsibilities.

JOINERY & CABINET MAKING

       Manufacture bespoke carcasses, cabinetry, and fitted furniture to drawings and specifications.

       Produce high-quality joinery for galleys, heads, cabins, and saloon areas.

       Work from technical drawings and templates, adapting details as needed to fit the vessel.

       Select and prepare materials, ensuring efficient and accurate use of timber, veneers, and panel products.

INSTALLATION & FIT-OUT

       Install cabinetry, joinery, and fitted furniture on board, ensuring a precise, secure fit.

       Fit windows, hatches, and other joinery-related deck and cabin fittings as required.

       Work closely with the Head of Outfit to sequence installation around other trades.

QUALITY & FINISH

       Deliver a consistently high standard of finish, in line with Archipelago’s design standards.

       Check and correct fit, alignment, and finish before sign-off.

       Take pride in workmanship and attention to detail on every job.

TEAMWORK & COORDINATION

       Work as part of the outfit team, coordinating with other joiners, fabricators, engineers, and painters.

       Communicate progress, issues, and material needs clearly to the Head of Outfit.

       Support less experienced team members and share best practice where appropriate.

GENERAL

       Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area.

       Follow yard health and safety procedures at all times.

       Adapt to changing priorities as projects and the business evolve.

Requirements

       Proven experience in detailed carpentry, including carcass manufacture and bespoke joinery.

       Potential experience of bespoke kitchen fitting or fine cabinetry work.

       Strong practical skills, with a keen eye for detail and finish.

       Experience of working in a marine environment would be an advantage, but is not essential.

       Able to work from technical drawings and templates.

       A reliable, hands-on approach, comfortable working independently or as part of a team.

       Based on the Isle of Wight, and able to commute to Newport reliably.
