Vikoma is a world leading environmental business. We design and manufacture oil spill response and oil recovery equipment. Our expert team of 60 supports an international market from our Isle of Wight based facility.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Workshop Operative with mechanical fitting experience to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and maintaining mechanical components and systems, working from technical drawings, and using a variety of hand and power tools.
For the right person, there is also potential to join our commissioning team for international trips in which case additional allowances will be paid.
We can offer you a permanent contract working a 38 hour week at our factory in East Cowes plus potential for overtime.

Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret and work from detailed technical drawings and schematics.
- Assemble and fit mechanical and hydraulic components to precise specifications.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Conduct inspections and quality checks on completed assemblies.
- Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to resolve technical issues or improvement opportunities.
- Follow health and safety procedures and company policies at all times.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in mechanical fitting or a similar workshop-based role.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and engineering diagrams.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools (e.g., spanners, screwdrivers) and power tools (e.g., drills, grinders).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Relevant qualifications in mechanical engineering or workshop operations (preferred but not essential).
Desirable:
- Experience with hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
- Basic fabrication skills.
