Somerton MOT Centre is a well-established, family-run garage based in Cowes, serving the Isle of Wight community since 1994.

Our team of fully qualified mechanics delivers a wide range of high-quality, affordable services including MOT testing, vehicle servicing, engine diagnostics, tyre and exhaust work, brakes, clutches, and general mechanical.

As we continue exciting growth, we’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join us as a Motor Vehicle Apprentice.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop your skills while working towards a recognised qualification.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

As part of your job role, you’ll be involved in a variety of tasks including:

• Servicing a wide range of vehicles.
• Performing mechanical repairs.
• Fitting and balancing tyres.
• Using diagnostic tools to identify faults.
• Carrying out MOT-related repairs.
• Supporting general maintenance and repairs under supervision.
• Full training and support will be provided.

Essential Qualities and Skills:
We’re seeking someone who is keen to learn, has a genuine interest in motor vehicles, and is ready to work as part of a busy team.

• A good level of mechanical aptitude.
• Tech-savvy, with an interest in diagnostics and modern vehicle systems.
• Strong communication skills.
• Friendly and professional customer service manner.
• Reliable, punctual, and willing to get stuck in.
• Ideally, the candidate will have some background in Motor Vehicle study.

Qualifications Required:

·         GCSE grade C/4 or above in English & Maths (or equivalent qualification).

Apprenticeship Standard:

• Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.
• Duration of the apprenticeship will be around 36 months.
• Attendance at The Isle of Wight College as part of the Apprenticeship from September 2025.

Working Hours:

·       40 hours per week.       

·       Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00/5:30pm (depending on break schedule).

Wage:

·       £7.55 per hour to begin with.

*This apprenticeship position is based in Cowes on the Isle of Wight and requires daily on-site attendance. Due to the nature of the role and training commitments, applicants will currently reside on the Isle of Wight or have immediate plans to relocate. *

Additional information:

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £7.55 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
